These upper reaches of the canal contain a good head of Gudgeon with Roach, Perch and Bream occasionally showing they can also throw up the occasional Chub which we think may have come through the tunnel from a stocking on the Lancashire side.
There have also been the odd report of sightings of carp in the top length although as far as we know no one has ever caught one !.
Some very large Brown Trout sometimes turn up in these upper lengths of the canal, if caught they should be treated with care and MUST be returned to the water.
